What computer program do I use with e my midi keyboard?

I have a yamaha electric piano that has midi in and out. I would like to use this keyboard with my computer to synthesize guitar and other sounds and record them as mp3 files. I already brought the midi to usb cord. Which free program will let me synthesize the sounds, and edit the files and save them to mp3?
