Is this a foul police procedure?

Officer had probable cause to pullover and treat as potential felony in progress- stolen vehicle, interstate transport. Officer secured suspect safely and continued investigation, found discrepancy in displayed info-- vehicle plates matched alert, description didn't so confirmed identity and vehicle registration, probably called supervisor and got word to release at site instead of bring in for further identification. Explanation of why stopped, released and property returned, no violence, no foul.
